St. Joseph’s College Announces Degree in Studio Art

Patchogue, N.Y. – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce the addition of a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art to SJC Long Island, located in Patchogue, New York, beginning fall 2016. In the past, SJC has offered studio art as an 18-credit minor.

The new Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art degree will be a 45-credit program with concentrations in painting, digital design, printmaking, ceramics and crafts as an art form. Hands-on courses in graphic design, web design, drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics and crafts will be taught in MAC labs, spacious 2D studios and darkrooms by a talented faculty of practicing artists and scholars. This program will afford students the opportunity to participate in experiential learning activities through study abroad opportunities, as well as trips to NYC museums. Online and hybrid courses are also available to studio art majors.

“With the addition of the B.A. in Studio Art, we are offering students a chance to develop their artistic skills and prepare for creative career opportunities,” said Dawn Lee, M.F.A., associate professor and chairperson of the Department of Art at SJC Long Island. “The College and its students look forward to becoming an active part of Long Island’s art community.”

At SJC, the studio art degree is designed to prepare students for an array of career choices which include, teaching; art therapy; advertising; graphic design; motion graphics; illustration; photography; museum, auction house, gallery and archive curation, preservation and conservation; art law; and not-for-profit employment at government agencies and art organizations.
