St. Joseph’s University is looking to fill a full time position (2-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10-6 p.m. on Fridays) on our Long Island campus. Technician will be responsible to provide technical (both hardware and software) support to computer clients of St. Joseph’s University. Answer questions or resolve computer problems for clients in person, via telephone or through remote software.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems.
  • Troubleshoot network, hardware and software problems by identifying, documenting and resolving issues.
  • Troubleshoot, support and maintain Audio/Video equipment.
  • Provide walk-in technical support to clients that come to the help desk for first level tech support.
  • Support student workers with help desk requests.
  • Install, test, and perform repairs to hardware, software, peripheral equipment following design and installation specifications.
  • Set up equipment for employee or student use, performing hardware imaging and ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software.
  • Participate in creation or maintenance of IT standards and procedures.
  • Maintain records of daily data communication transactions, problems, and remedial actions taken, or installation activities within the ticketing system.
  • Read technical manuals, documented procedures, confer with users, or conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support.
  • Confer with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications.
  • Document instructions and procedures for proper install of new software.
  • Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service.

Qualifications:

  • Training in vocational school, related on-the-job experience, or an Associate’s degree. Two or more years of work-related experience.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
  • Strong telephone and interpersonal contact skills required.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills with attention to details and quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities with little supervision.
  • Ability to cover Saturday and Sunday when required.

Salary $53,000
