SJC Offers New Hospitality and Tourism Management Program

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. MAY 14, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce the addition of a new Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management to its undergraduate programs on both its Brooklyn and Long Island Campuses for the 2013 fall semester. This unique degree was created with the purpose of fusing the Colleges long-standing tradition of excellence in the liberal arts with the contemporary workforce needs of the region.

"We are excited to offer the new HTM program at St. Josephs College, which embodies the civic mission of the College by serving the needs of our students, community and region as a whole, said SJC President S. Elizabeth Hill. "Our intention is to offer a dynamic program that trains our students in careers that meet pressing employment needs in the New York metropolitan area, which will enable local businesses in these fields to generate sustained economic opportunity and growth.

The B.S. degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management will offer three distinct areas of concentrationTourism, Hotel Management and Health Care Hospitalitydesigned to afford students a variety of pathways to pursue a broad range of career choices that align with the most recent trends in  employment  in the New York region. The program will also provide students with unique internship opportunities, giving them practical experience in their chosen fields before they graduate.

This multidisciplinary major will support the building of integrative communities and educational programs and services that will contribute to the long-term vitality and sustainability of the New York region by placing strong emphasis on ecological concerns (eco-tourism and agri-tourism), integration of hotel management with sustainability at its core, and the principles of hospitality, especially as they relate to patient care in medical and non-profit environments.

The announcement of the new HTM program follows the introduction of SJCs Institute for Hospitality and Tourism Management earlier this year. The mission of the Institute is to provide a leading voice in the discussion of responsible hospitality as a critical component to running a successful enterprise, while seeking to prepare students for professional careers in this growing field, and to make a positive impact, not only on our local region, but on the global community as well.
