St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Richard Margulis ’85, adjunct professor of health administration and president and CEO of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, was named as a 2015 Outstanding CEO of the Year by Long Island Business News. Margulis was honored during an awards dinner held earlier this month at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York.

The annual Outstanding CEO program celebrates Long Island’s top executives of signature firms and organizations, recognizing those who have consistently demonstrated remarkable leadership skills, integrity, values, vision and a commitment to excellence, financial performance, community and diversity.

Margulis, a resident of Brookhaven, served as Brookhaven Hospital’s executive vice president and chief operating officer prior to being named president and CEO in 2013. Under his leadership, the 306-bed, acute-care community hospital has launched a $60 million capital campaign to build the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, providing advanced cardiac diagnosis, treatment and recovery capabilities.

“It is a terrific honor to be recognized among such a prestigious class of awardees,” said Margulis.  “This distinction is only possible because of the outstanding work performed daily by the employees and the medical team at Brookhaven Hospital and the support from our board of directors.”

Margulis earned a B.S. in Health Administration from SJC and an M.B.A. from Dowling College; he began his career as a radiologic technologist. In addition to teaching at SJC, Margulis is a current board member for the Long Island Health Network and the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council. He is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Healthcare Association of New York State and the American Hospital Association.
