NYS Governor Andrew M. Cuomo Delivers Budget Talk at SJC

BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, NY February 25, 2011 New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo delivered a message on his proposed 2011-2012 Executive Budget to an audience of hundreds at St. Josephs College on Wednesday, February 23.

During his speech, Gov. Cuomo focused on shared responsibility, creating more jobs in New York by region and reducing excess spending in the state budget, including the areas of education and Medicaid.

"Decades of overtaxing and overspending have taken our state to the brink, Gov. Cuomo said. "To change our course, this years budget is based on a very simple concept -- we can't spend more than we take in. But as families throughout Long Island know, we cannot tax our way to economic health. Instead, we need to cut costs and spend smarter. Now is the time to make the tough decisions we need to rebuild our economy and restore our state.

The discussion, which took place in the McGann Conference Center located on the Colleges Long Island Campus in Patchogue, NY, drew in a crowd of approximately 300, including political figures, local civic leaders and students, faculty, administrators and trustees from St. Josephs College.
