Patchogue, N.Y. – December 16, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Gail Lamberta, Ph.D., associate dean, professor and chairperson for the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at SJC, has been named to Long Island Business News’ “Who’s Who in Professional Women” list for 2014. Dr. Lamberta is also the coordinator of experiential learning for both campuses of SJC and the co-chair for the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

In November 2014, Long Island Business News, a subscription-based weekly newspaper dedicated to local commerce, published a list of 65 women from a variety of industries who are informed of significant developments within their fields and hold key positions within their companies. Each of the nominees discussed current trends and how she is influencing the progression of her organization by focusing on these trends.

“In response to economic shifts, SJC has designed a new Bachelor of Science Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management,” said Dr. Lamberta. “This degree program focuses on three distinct concentrations: tourism, which embeds both eco-tourism and agri-tourism; hotel management, which includes sustainability at its core; and health care hospitality, which prepares graduates to address and improve patient satisfaction in hospitals and senior residences.”

Dr. Lamberta participates in the National College Credit Recommendation Service and serves as president of the Long Island Leisure Services Association. She is also the co-founder of the Blue Stars and Yellow Ribbons Veterans Initiative at SJC. Dr. Lamberta holds a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation from SJC, a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Adelphi University and a Ph.D. in health services from Walden University.
