SJC Brooklyn Launches Math Lab for BHGH

November 19, 2015 BK

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - November 19, 2015 - SJC Brooklyn is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Boys Hope Girls Hope (BHGH) to launch Math Clinic, a free afterschool program designed to provide math extra help to high school students enrolled in the BHGH residential program.

“Math Clinic is a welcome addition to the strong partnership we enjoy with Boys Hope Girls Hope,” said Dr. Jill Rehmann, vice president of academic affairs for SJC Brooklyn. “This program is a fantastic opportunity for our students to share their knowledge with local youth and teach them the skills they need to prepare and thrive in their own college careers.”

Each week, five to eight tutors from SJC Brooklyn work with BHGH students on topics such as algebra, geometry and pre-calculus with the goal of improving their test scores and preparing them for college-level work. Through this process, BHGH students receive the opportunity to study on a college campus, and SJC students receive valuable experience in teaching and serving as mentors.

The program was conceived as part of SJC Brooklyn’s continued commitment to community outreach, and after identifying the need for such services following the College’s annual summer program with BHGH. Math Clinic meets every Monday afternoon for the next three weeks and will resume in February for the remainder of the school year.
