BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, NY September 13, 2012 St. Josephs College (SJC) was again recognized by two prestigious publications as an outstanding college in the region under the category of Americas Best Colleges. For more than a decade, SJC has been consistently named as one of the nations top colleges by U.S. News & World Report this year placing it in the top half of the region in its 2013 rankings of Best Colleges while Forbes Magazine ranked the College in its online issue of Americas Best Colleges for five consecutive years.
"St. Josephs consistently ranks among the top four-year private colleges as listed in U.S. News & World Report and Forbes, primarily because we offer stellar academics and innovative programs while striving to keep tuition costs reasonable and offering generous financial aid packages, said President S. Elizabeth A. Hill, C.S.J., J.D. "Through small classes and one-on-one advising by expert faculty, we support a challenging yet nurturing academic and social environment where students can become more confident risk takers and creative problem solvers. The end result is that our students earn a top-tier education while paying one of the lowest tuition rates of any private college in the region.
With campuses in Brooklyn and Long Island, SJC was ranked in the top half of Regional Universities in the North by U.S. News & World Report, which bases its annual rankings on graduation and retention rate, faculty resources, selectivity, faculty/student ratio and the assessment of each school from its peers. SJCs strong freshman retention rate and continuing dedication to highly personalized instruction, which is reflected in the 15:1 faculty/student ratio and small class sizes, helped secure the institutions place in the top-tier. This years rankings of Regional Universities, which offer a full range of undergraduate and graduate degrees, but only a few doctoral programs, are split into the four regions of the country.
The criteria for ranking in Forbes was based on the average student debt at graduation, percentage of students graduating in four years and the number of students or faculty who win national competitive awards. SJC offers the lowest tuition of all top-tier private colleges on Long Island and is one of the most affordable private institutions in the tri-state area.
