BROOKLYN , N.Y. September 16, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that its Brooklyn Campus Healthcare Administration Department will hold a panel discussion on the new healthcare exchanges enacted by New York State as part of the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday, September 25 at 7 p.m. in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium. This event, created in partnership with Assemblyman Walter Mosley and Health Republic Insurance of New York, is free and open to the public.
This panel will be moderated by Dr. Lauren Pete, Ph.D, J.D., chair of the health administration department at SJC and will feature the following experts:
Dr. Edward Anselm, Medical Director, Health Republic Insurance of New York
Elizabeth Vega-Lebron, Director of Member Outreach and Engagement, Health Republic Insurance of NY
Sara Rothstein, Director of Policy, New York State Department of Health
Flor Ramirez, Director, Healthcare Access Program, Retail Action Project
One of the cornerstones of the Affordable Care Act, the healthcare exchange program launched by New York State, will enable individuals, businesses and small groups to use the power of the market to purchase private insurance plans in a regulated marketplace. At this event, Dr. Pete will lead a discussion with the panelists on the formation of the exchanges and how individuals, small groups and businesses can use the exchanges. From this, the audience will gain an understanding of how the exchanges operate and how best to utilize them in securing affordable health coverage for themselves and/or their employees.
