BROOKLYN, N.Y. – MAY 5, 2015 - St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will host participants during the final portion of the 2015 ALS Ride For Life on Saturday, May 9 at 8:45 a.m. at the Hill Center located at 212 Vanderbilt Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. At this event, participants can register and enjoy a light breakfast before the group departs for the last segment of the walk at 9:30 a.m.

From its starting point in Greenport, on the East End of Long Island on April 29, this year’s event has seen hundreds of people join the cause to support a cure for ALS. After its departure, the group will proceed to the Brooklyn Bridge and travel toward City Hall by 11 a.m. for a break and lunch. Following this, participants will travel north and arrive at Washington Square Park around 12:20 p.m. to conclude this year’s event.

“The founder of Ride for Life, Chris Pendergast, has presented his inspirational story on our Brooklyn Campus, which made a deep and resonating impact on our community,” said Dr. Gail Lamberta, chairperson of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at SJC. “His remarkable drive and courage has ignited our students, faculty and staff, and their participation in the ride, serving as hosts as they join us on our campus for breakfast and a send-off for their last day of the ride.”

Ride for Life, which was founded in 1997 by Chris Pendergast, is a patient-driven, volunteer organization dedicated to raising research funds to find a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) while supporting patients and their families through patient services.  For more information about this event and Ride for Life, visit alsrideforlife.org.
