ST. JOSEPH’S COLLEGE HOSTS AWARDS DINNER HONORING EDUCATORS

BROOKLYN and PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – November 15, 2021 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce the Esse Non Videri Gala Awards Dinner on Friday, November 19 at 6 p.m. at the Garden City Hotel in Garden City, New York. Sponsored by Kimelman and Baird LLC and nearly two dozen other leading organizations and individuals, the event will honor 10 outstanding educators with all proceeds benefiting SJC student scholarships for future educators.

The honorees are:

  • Educator of the Year: Julianna Bove ’82, DOE superintendent of District 22 in Brooklyn, who was selected for her leadership, dedication and excellence to her students and the needs of English-language learners.
  • Excellence in Teaching (Primary and Early Education): Leah Hebert Olivo ’06, fourth grade special education teacher at Moriches Elementary School
  • Excellence in Education (Secondary Education): Christina Quintana ’14, ’16, ninth grade U.S. history teacher at the Scholars’ Academy
  • Distinguished Administrator: Kim Redgrave ’91, principal at Stephen Knolls School
  • Rising Star: Dr. Latoya O’Gere ’11, ’18, DNP, MSN/Ed, RN, associate executive director of New York City Health and Hospitals/Community Care
  • Rising Star: Andria Onorato ’16, ’19, third grade special education teacher at Sycamore Avenue Elementary School
  • Rising Star: Jade Lawrence ’20, kindergarten teacher at Paul J. Bellew Elementary School
  • COVID-19 Pandemic Educator: Joanna Bis ’16, ’18, fourth grade teacher at P.S. 253 in Brooklyn
  • COVID-19 Pandemic Educator: Jennifer Silberberg ’19, ’21, K/1 special education teacher at P.S. 102 in Brooklyn
  • Legacy in Education Award (Posthumous): Joseph Lewinger ’00 of The Mary Louis Academy in Queens

Each category recognizes outstanding teachers and educators who are striving to attain success for all students while leading and inspiring students through effective leadership, innovation in the classroom, collaborative efforts and a creative approach that makes learning exciting. Honorees were nominated for the awards and selected by a committee of SJC staff, faculty and alumni.
