BROOKLYN and PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – July 6, 2021 - St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it has received its highest ranking to date on the Military Times’ Best for Vets: Colleges 2021 list. SJC earned the #2 spot on the 2021 list for the Northeast and Islands; #5 for Private Not-for-Profits; #41 in General Education and #42 Overall Rank. The annual list recognizes colleges and universities for their attention to military and veteran students; retention and graduation rates; benefits offered and accreditation.

“We are honored to be ranked so highly among the many colleges and universities who serve our veterans,” said SJC President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D. “At St. Joseph’s, we are committed to making our military and veteran students feel welcome and supported from the moment they arrive on campus. We also work hard to ensure that their transition back into civilian life and careers is seamless. These students have given so much to our country and we are privileged to help them achieve their educational goals.”

More than 300 schools participated in this year’s Best for Vets: Colleges survey, which included more than 70 questions seeking details about costs, programs, policies and services offered that impact military-connected students. Federal data from the U.S. Departments of Education, Veterans Affairs and Defense, were also considered.

“On behalf of the College, we appreciate this year's Best for Vets recognition,” said Erin D’Eletto, director of SJC’s Office of Military and Veteran Students. “I am extremely proud of the significant investment and support that the SJC community continues to provide to our military and veteran students and their families. We must also recognize and commend these students for their continued commitment to service, studies, and academic and professional success.”

A proud participant in the Post-9/11 GI Bill® Yellow Ribbon Program, SJC offers financial support for education and housing to military veterans with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2011, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. SJC also offers credit for military training and experience and countless opportunities to help make SJC a familiar atmosphere and ease the transition from service member to civilian.
