BROOKLYN and PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – June 14, 2021 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Director of Nursing Maria Fletcher, Ph.D., R.N., C.N.E., has been selected to receive a Healthcare Hero Award from Schneps Media in recognition of her contributions in preparing the next generation of nurses and health care workers. She will receive the award at a private event, with a virtual broadcast airing on June 30.
“St. Joseph's College is grateful to Dr. Fletcher and her entire team. She and her staff are true health care heroes in every sense of the word,” said Dr. Donald R. Boomgaarden, president of SJC. “For more than 30 years, she has served as a dedicated member of our faculty and has led the impressive evolution and growth of our undergraduate and graduate nursing programs on both of our campuses. I also want to congratulate all of the honorees and thank them for their tireless dedication to keeping our communities healthy and safe.”
Dr. Fletcher is a graduate of Hunter College, New York University and Adelphi University. She has worked extensively in many areas of nursing, including public health and maternal and child health. Dr. Fletcher has been an instructor at SJC since 1989, assuming increasing responsibility in the Department of Nursing, while serving on multiple committees and task forces at the College. For the past five years, Dr. Fletcher has been the Director of the Department of Nursing for both SJC Brooklyn and SJC Long Island, responsible for all undergraduate and graduate programs at the College.
