Third Annual Rubik’s Cube Competition Coming to SJC

July 31, 2012 LI

PATCHOGUE, NY AUGUST 1, 2012 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will host its third annual Rubiks Cube Competition on Saturday, August 18 from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center on  the Long Island Campus.

Organized by SJC student and two-time former U.S. Rubiks Cube Champion and runner-up World Champion Rowe Hessler, the contest will bring together more than 30 individuals from around the country to compete in a series of Rubiks Cube events ranging in levels of difficulty.

"My favorite aspect of the competition is just seeing everyone together, said Mr. Hessler, a senior and math and computer science major. "Speedcubing competitions are more of a friendly gathering than a contest. That is one of the reasons I love it so much. I am focused more on having a good time than I am on winning.

Competitors will race to solve 2x2 cubes, 3x3 cubes, 4x4 cubes and 5x5 cubes, and will participate in blindfolded and one-handed competitions. Registration is $5 for one event and $1 for each additional event. All entrance fees will go toward the purchase of supplies and food for the event. Proceeds will benefit the World Cube Association to help fund future competitions.

Registration will be open through August 11. All entrance fees must be paid at the door. To register or receive more information, visit www.cubingusa.com or contact Rowe Hessler at [email protected] or 631.764.7250.
