Starting this spring 2025, Women’s Flag Football will be available on both of St. Joseph's campuses.

How is Women's Flag Football played?

  • Flag football is played on an 80x40-yard field
  • It features four quarters, each lasting 12 minutes
  • Teams generally have around 25 players, though there are no current official roster caps
  • Games are played in a seven-on-seven format

Does the NCAA offer Women's Flag Football as a Championship Sport?

Women's flag has formally applied to the Emerging Sports for Women program via RCX Sports Foundation (with support from USA Football). From here, the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will review the application and make a recommendation to the Divisions.

When will the Women’s Flag Football teams begin competing?

The teams will begin competing during the Spring 2025 semester. A schedule will be announced shortly, and all program updates can be found on the Bear's and Golden Eagles websites.

Who will the Women’s Flag Football teams compete against?

The teams will compete against other local varsity and club teams in the region.

Who will serve on the coaching staffs for each campus?

The Bears are currently conducting a search for a head coach. Individuals interested in applying for the part-time position should email Director of Athletics & Recreation, Megan Valentine with current resume, cover letter, and list of at least 3 professional references.

Long Island

The head coach for the Golden Eagles will be Kerry Connolly.
