PATCHOGUE, N.Y. June 4, 2013 Long Island Head Start, an organization that provides a comprehensive learning environment to children, has honored the Department of Child Study at St. Josephs College (SJC) with the Early Childhood Education Award at its 47th Anniversary Gala on Wednesday, May 22 at Captain Bills in Bay Shore, N.Y.
"The mission of Head Start complements that of St. Josephs College and our partnership has been mutually beneficial, said S. Mary Ann Cashin, chairperson of the Department of Child Study at SJC. "It was an honor to accept the award on behalf of St. Joseph's College and, in particular, the faculty and teacher candidates who have made the child study program the exemplary one that it is. This award recognizes that quality and we celebrate their recognition.

For 47 years, Long Island Head Start has been dedicated to helping at-risk and vulnerable children and families living in Suffolk County. Today, Long Island Head Start serves over 2,000 children and families in 22 centers located throughout Suffolk County, and have a waiting list of over 1,000 children.
