May 08, 2015

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – May 8, 2015 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the 15th Annual Greater New York Regional High School Programming Competition on Monday, May 18 at 11 a.m. on the College’s Long Island Campus in Patchogue.

The annual competition is open to all greater New York area high school students and requires teams to solve a set of problems within a specified time period. Members from the winning team will each receive a cash prize. More than 150 students will compete this year, representing high schools from New York City and Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester counties.

“Participation in this event has grown from 30 students to 150 students over the last 15 years,” said William McAllister, professor of mathematics and computer science at SJC. “Participation in the event often serves as a focal point for the students’ studies during the academic year.”

During the contest, each team will be asked to solve the same set of problems. Problem solutions must be submitted in the form of source code. Teams will be ranked in the competition by the number of correct solutions they submit to the judges. The team who submits the greatest number of correct solutions will be the winner of the competition.
