New Institute for Hospitality and Tourism Management Announced

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. FEBRUARY 25, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is proud to introduce its new Institute for Hospitality and Tourism Management. The Institutes mission is to provide a leading voice in the discussion of responsible hospitality as a critical component to running a successful enterprise. As the College prepares students for professional careers in this growing field, it seeks to make a positive impact, not only on its local region, but on the global community.

"It is my distinct honor to announce a new Institute for Hospitality and Tourism Management at SJC, which will provide a central venue and be a leading voice in the discussion of responsible tourism and hospitality, said Dr. Christopher Frost, SJCs Long Island Campus academic dean for the School of Arts and Sciences. "By way of the Institute, we will partner with our surrounding communities to provide education, research and technical and cultural support to help promote economic and cultural development and ecological conservation.

The relationship between the Institute and the hospitality and tourism industry is a reciprocal one:  the College provides relevant training and research that enhances the industry. In turn, the industry provides students with valuable opportunities that link classroom learning with professional experience. The goal is to provide an education rooted strongly in the liberal arts that integrates academic rigor with a career-related field placement.

"In the face of Superstorm Sandy, we were all reminded how intricately connected we are to our physical place, and how urgent the need is to prepare students to take on the challenge of stewarding our natural resources, said Dr. Frost. "These issues, along with the need to provide mutual support in the area of health care hospitalityas evidenced by very low patient care ratings in the State of New Yorkhave helped us to identify two very fruitful areas for future growth: Heath Care and Hospitality-Tourism.
