March 02, 2014

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. MARCH 3, 2014 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will host its second annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Friday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on its Long Island Campus. The symposium seeks to offer students from all disciplines an opportunity to share and celebrate their scholarly and creative accomplishments with the entire SJC community.

"We are excited for another opportunity to host this wonderful event, said Dominique Treboux, Ph.D., director of undergraduate research and associate professor of psychology at SJC. "Students will present their research that has ensued from laboratories, applied settings, seminars and art studios. The outstanding work of our students emerges from strong student-faculty collaborations, and it reflects what is possible at a student-centered college like St. Josephs.

Sponsored by all SJC academic departments, students will present research papers, art exhibitions or posters that have been completed as part of an independent study, honors project, research project or other analytical activity. Topics will include art, biology, English, history, philosophy, psychology, religious studies and more. Students submissions must be completed online before Monday, April 21.

Last years event was attended by nearly 200 people, including 75 students who exhibited 51 presentations. The wide variety of presentations included in-depth studies on topics such as the effects of plant-derived chemicals on breast cancer cells, the relations of Native Americans to the Earth, projective geometry and the use of perspective art and the effects of induced frustration on creative thinking.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Register online or visit http://sjcugresearch.wordpress.com for more information.
