SJC Alumna Named Cornaro Scholar by Kappa Gamma Pi Honor Society

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. JULY 2, 2014 St. Josephs College (SJC) is proud to announce that Nina Angelina Franza 14 was awarded the Cornaro Scholarship by Kappa Gamma Pi, the National College Graduate Honor Society.

Kappa Gamma Pi, celebrating its 88th anniversary this year, awards one or more of its members with the Cornaro Scholarship, which includes a $5,000 grant to assist with graduate school expenses. Ms. Franzas selection was based on her academic achievement, history of service and career goals. 

Ms. Franza received a B.A. in Psychology and Speech Communication in 2014. Her past volunteer activities include serving on the SJC Campus Activities Board for three years, participating in overseas mission trips, actively volunteering with AMVETS and completing three internships related to underrepresented people in the community. This fall, Ms. Franza will attend Rutgers University in Piscataway Township, N.J. to pursue a doctoral degree in school psychology. 

The Cornaro Scholarship for Graduate Studies was instituted in 1985. Funding is provided by direct contributions from Kappa Gamma Pi members and friends. Since 1926, more than 55,000 graduates of affiliated Catholic colleges and universities have been nominated to the organization recognizing their outstanding scholarship, leadership and service, and challenging them to continue as examples of "Faith and Service to all whose lives they touch.
