SJC Awards Achievement Medal to Alumnus and Veteran

Patchogue, N.Y. – September 17, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Kenneth Roche ’03 has been selected to receive the Saint Catherine Medal for Student Achievement, an annual award honoring a member of the SJC community who represents the high ideals of a Catholic college education. Roche will receive his award at the SJC Honors Convocation on Thursday, October 9.

“As a former recipient of the Saint Catherine Medal, I am pleased to honor Kenneth Roche with this year’s medal,” said Paige Napoli Carbone ’02, director of alumni engagement. “Kenneth is an inspiration to both our alumni and students, and has been an incredible asset to the Alumni Association. We are lucky to have someone as talented and dedicated as him.”

Roche, a resident of Islip, graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from SJC’s Long Island Campus and earned an M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Adelphi University's Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies. In addition, Roche is a veteran who served in the United States Coast Guard. He currently works as the director of South Shore Mental Health Counseling Services in East Islip, New York, where he often participates in SJC’s Alumni Mentoring Program and Job Shadow Program.

Saint Catherine serves as an inspiration for individuals who aspire to obtain knowledge, and the medal, presented by Kappa Gamma Pi, National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society, symbolizes learning and wisdom. First awarded in 1956, the recipient of this medal is selected by faculty or classmates on the basis of leadership and service to the college.
