SJC Awards Alumni Scholarships to Students

Patchogue, N.Y. – September 29, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that David Robert Moisan ’15 and Teri Sandowski ’15 will be awarded the Thomas J. Wendt ’88 Alumni Scholarship at this year’s Honors Convocation to be held on the Long Island Campus on Thursday, October 9.

“The Thomas J. Wendt Alumni Scholarship is awarded to a continuing student to recognize his or her service to the college and local community, success in the classroom and commitment to the mission of the College," said Bryan Gill, director of student activities and co-curricular programs for SJC’s Long Island Campus. “We are so excited to present the award this year to two student leaders who demonstrate and continue to live out the College's mission. David and Teri are both committed to giving back to the community around them each day and I am very proud of them and their service to St. Joseph's College."

David Robert Moisan ’15, a resident of Northport, is a biology major with minors in chemistry and history. He is a member of the Sustainability Committee, Dean's Service Circle, Chemistry Green Club, Nicaragua Project, Student Leadership Experience and the National Biology Honor Society. In addition, David is a contributing writer for the College’s newspaper The Talon, is an active volunteer at Mather Hospital and with the Boys and Girls Club of Suffolk County and coaches children’s baseball.

Teri Sandowski ’15, a resident of Selden, is a human services major and student representative on the Department of Human Services Advisory Council. She works to educate adults and youth in the community about child sexual exploitation through the Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk (VIBS) and also volunteers for Helping Hands Ministries, Samantha's Little Bit of Heaven Ministries and the Restoration and Revival Center in Patchogue.

The Thomas J. Wendt ’88 Alumni Scholarship is named for a former employee and alumnus who was dedicated to volunteerism and charitable causes. After Wendt’s passing in 2004, SJC established a memorial scholarship in his name to benefit students who play an active part in the College and the surrounding community.
