Council for the Arts Hosts Artist-in-Residence Dave Rogers

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – SEPTEMBER 23, 2014 – The St. Joseph’s College (SJC) Council for the Arts is proud to welcome Dave Rogers as its 2014 Artist-in-Residence on October 15 and 16. As part of his visit, Rogers will share the traditions of Chinese paper cutting and talk about how his art has been influenced by his military service on October 16 from 12:40 – 1:40 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center located in O’Connor Hall on the College’s Long Island Campus.  

A visual, installation and paper-cutting artist, Rogers has showcased his work nationally and internationally, with solo shows in New York and China. He taught art and English in China for six years and is now the assistant to the executive editor for Musée magazine, gallery manager for ArtSpace Patchogue, visiting instructor for the Islip Arts Council and curator of Cultural Souls Fine Art Fair in Miami, Florida. Rogers received a B.A. in Visual Arts with honors from SUNY College at Old Westbury and an M.F.A. in Sculpture from LIU–Post. 

Each year, the Council for the Arts invites an Artist-in-Residence to the College to introduce students to professional artists and their methods. The artist lectures and listens to student, staff and faculty inquiries about art while elaborating on their own personal experience and influence. 

An exhibition of Rogers’ work, “Neo-Surrealist Expressions” will also be on display from October 4 through November 7 in the Board Room Gallery in O’Connor Hall. A special reception will take place on October 28 at 4:30 p.m.
