PATCHOGUE, N.Y. JULY 29, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that John Sardelis, Dr.P.H., associate chairman of health care management at SJC, has been elected as chairman of the finance committee for the Affinity Health Plan board of directors. In addition, Dr. Sardelis has been appointed as a member of the audit committee for the IPRO board of directors.
The Affinity Health Plan is an independent, not-for-profit company dedicated to providing comprehensive, affordable, high-quality health care to New Yorkers that receive low to moderate income. Also considered a not-for-profit corporation, IPRO is committed to assessing and improving health care services through the use of innovative methods and technologies.
While reaching out to the community, Dr. Sardelis wrote a column entitled "Sardelis: Back to Basics, on May 31, voicing his support for RotaCare, an all-volunteer health care organization that offers free primary care for medical indigents, at no cost.
On July 12, Dr. Sardelis was quoted in an article for the Long Island Business News, discussing health care reform in New York. The article was called "Deadline looms for Obamacare. Similarly, Dr. Sardelis shared his knowledge in another article, "State: Cheaper health insurance expected on LI published by Newsday, on July 17, in regards to the significant reduction in health care premiums that will be available in 2014.
An associate professor for health administration at St. Josephs College since 2003, Dr. Sardelis is founder of the St. Josephs College Healthcare Center for Outreach, Research, and Education (CORE), which assists Long Islanders in addressing health disparities, providing up-to-date information on public programs, and providing speakers on topical health issues. Dr. Sardelis received a bachelors degree in mathematics from Hunter College of the University of the City of New York, a masters degree in statistics and operations research from the Stern School of Business at New York University, and a doctor of public health degree from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, respectively.
