PATCHOGUE, N.Y. NOVEMBER 1, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting its 8th Annual Charity Bingo Night on Thursday, November 21 from 7 10 p.m. in the John A. Danzi Athletic Center located on its Long Island Campus. The event will raise funds for a local family whose child suffers from Epidermolysis Bullosa, a rare genetic connective tissue disorder.
"This fundraiser and the family who it will benefit are part of the SJC community now, said Celeste Guarneri, associate director of co-curricular programs on SJCs Long Island Campus. "It has been a wonderful experience becoming close to them over the years. Only some will win Bingo that night, but at this event, we are all winners."
Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic connective tissue disorder that is characterized by the presence of extremely fragile skin and recurrent blister formation, resulting from friction or trauma. Sufferers of EB have compared the sores to third-degree burns and there is currently no cure. Children with EB are known as butterfly children, because their skin is as fragile as the wings of a butterfly. It is estimated that 25,000 to 50,000 people in the U.S. have EB.
A $10 entry fee includes a Bingo game board, dinner and raffle tickets. For more information, contact the Office of Student Life at 631.687.4589.
The John A. Danzi Athletic Center is located at 155 W. Roe Blvd. in Patchogue, and is accessible via the South Service Road of Sunrise Highway, just east of Exit 52 (Waverly Ave.).
