PATCHOGUE, NY September 18, 2009 The Offices of Continuing Education and Enrollment Management at St. Josephs College along with the Long Island Regional Student Support Services Center will host the full-day professional seminar, "Motivational Intervention: A Gateway to Communication from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2009 in the John A. Danzi Athletic Center on the Long Island Campus of St. Josephs College.
This interactive seminar is designed to teach academic administrators, guidance counselors, teachers and teacher assistants how to deal with difficult scenarios in non-threatening, non-judgmental and non-confrontational ways. Featured speakers for this event include:
Dr. Harold E. Shinitzky: A consultant for countries, states, counties and schools in mental health and adolescent prevention initiatives, Dr. Shinitzky is in private practice. Formerly, he was the Director of Assessment/Intervention Team (AIT) at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and served on national advisory boards for Drug Free America, The Learning Partnership and the Applied Institute of Forensic Psychology.
Mr. Charles Friedman: Recently named the educational consultant and curriculum developer for the National Police Athletic League, Mr. Friedmans practices in motivational interviewing and curriculum development have been used by the U.S. Treasury, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
The cost for this seminar is $225, which includes a continental breakfast, boxed lunch, the seminar and $3,000 worth of curricula materials and CD-ROMs. In addition, participants will earn three Continuing Education Units from St. Josephs College to be used for professional development in an applicable school district.
