SJC Long Island Prepares Student-Athletes for the Workplace

October 08, 2015

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – October 8, 2015 – SJC’s Assistant Vice President and Senior Director of Athletics and Recreation Shantey Hill, has introduced the Golden Eagles Life Skills Program, an initiative to help prepare the College’s senior student-athletes for the professional workplace.

“This program has been established to help our seniors transition the skills they have developed as athletes into real-life, professional skills,” said Hill. “It will be a positive experience for the student-athletes and a great opportunity for prominent figures to meet with SJC students and realize their potential.”

Through the program, senior student-athletes will learn financial management skills, interviewing skills, proper business etiquette and receive instructions on how to draft resumes and cover letters. By offering these informative meetings, SJC’s Department of Athletics is fulfilling its promise to produce not only strong student-athletes, but practical, real-world leaders.

The Golden Eagles Life Skills Program will feature local figures, such as Theresa Regnante, president and CEO of United Way of Long Island, who presented the first event. The second event will take place on Monday, November 16.
