PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is a proud supporter and Distinguished Service sponsor of the Suffolk County Inaugural Marathon and Half Marathon to Support Our Veterans, which will take place on Sunday, September 13.

SJC Long Island has also partnered with Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone’s office and the Greater Long Island Running Club to serve as the host site for a pre-race Sports and Fitness Expo, which will take place in the John A. Danzi Athletic Center at SJC Long Island on Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12. Free and open to the public, the expo will offer services and products that marathon vendors, sponsors and partners have to offer. Marathon participants can also pick up their race packets between 3-8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday.

The inaugural 26.2 mile-marathon is designated as a Boston Marathon qualifier and will begin at Heckscher State Park in East Islip and continue through the downtowns of Oakdale, Sayville, Bayport, Blue Point and Patchogue. All proceeds will benefit local veteran services. In addition, the marathon will have a special veterans race category for all active military and retired veterans, as well as “wounded warrior” and para-olympics components. All veterans and military personnel will receive discounted registration fees.

A post-race Taste of Long Island Festival will take place at Heckscher State Park and will feature live music, local craft breweries, award-winning wines and local food and produce. Free tastings will be given to all race participants.
