Patchogue, N.Y. – October 5, 2015 – With more than 30,000 unemployed veterans on Long Island, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone will host a Veteran Career Fair and Expo at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) on Friday, October 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the John A. Danzi Athletic Center at SJC Long Island in Patchogue.
At the event, there will be more than 100 companies in attendance with open positions waiting to be filled. Career Couture, a Suffolk County-sponsored boutique located at the Suffolk County One-Stop Employment Center, will also be on hand highlighting the services they offer to residents who are transitioning back into the work force.
“This career fair will help veterans make the transition to fulfilling jobs in the civilian market where they will continue to contribute to the American way of life,” said County Executive Steve Bellone. “When our heroes come home to their families and homes in Suffolk County and try to acclimate themselves to living a day-to-day ‘normal’ life and finding employment in an unbalanced economy, it can be extremely difficult. That is why Suffolk County has organized this special job fair to provide these brave men and women with various opportunities while trying to bring back some stability into their lives. I thank St. Joseph’s College for hosting this event and I thank all of the companies who are represented for offering opportunities to Suffolk County’s veteran population.”
In addition to the event, Jennifer Rooney, director of career development and engagement at SJC Long Island, will present a workshop on Career Preparation on Monday, October 5 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
“SJC, a military and veteran-friendly institution, is honored to host this event and looks forward to building successful, lasting partnerships with all levels of government and the non-profit and business sectors, in order to support a most deserving population” said Erin D’Eletto, assistant dean of military and veteran services at SJC. “I want to thank Suffolk County and the businesses that are participating for their dedication to enhancing the quality of life of our service members, veterans and their families.”
The fair and workshop are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Elyse Quirk at 631.687.2674 or [email protected].
