SJC Participates in Day of Community Service Inspired by National Make A Difference Day

October 16, 2014

Patchogue, N.Y. – October 16, 2014 – The students, staff and faculty from St. Joseph’s College’s (SJC) Long Island Campus recently participated in a community service event known as Make A Difference Day, inspired by the national day of community service.

On Saturday, October 11, more than 70 students, along with faculty and staff from SJC, completed a number of off-campus community service projects for a variety of organizations, including the Northport VA Medical Center, Habitat for Humanity, Momma’s House, St. Joseph the Worker Church Community Garden in East Patchogue, Double D Bar Ranch in Manorville and Gerald Ryan Outreach Center in Wyandanch. In addition, the SJC Show Choir performed for the residents of the Arbors Assisted Living Community in Islandia, New York.

“Make A Difference Day is a college-wide coordinated service effort that is true to its name,” said Patrick Tracy, director of campus ministry on the Long Island Campus of SJC. “This event and the efforts of our students model our mission of service and social responsibility. By participating in this event, we have collectively contributed more than 350 hours of local community service, and that is something to be very proud of.”

Make A Difference Day 2014, the largest national day of community service, will take place on Saturday, October 25. For more than 20 years, millions of volunteers from around the world have been uniting for the common mission of improving the lives of others.
