PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – January 16, 2015 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Ronald Pirich, Ph.D., professor of physics on SJC’s Long Island Campus, has been selected as an International Society for Photonics and Optics (SPIE) Fellow.
“I am very honored to have been selected as a SPIE Fellow,” said Dr. Pirich. “I would like to thank all of my colleagues in the aerospace industry, government agencies and academia for the opportunity to have contributed to advancing photonic and optical-based technologies.”
With approximately 235,000 members from 155 countries, SPIE has only elected 1,100 fellows since its inception in 1955. Promotion to Fellow is based on scientific and technical contributions to optics, photonics and imaging, as well as support to the optics community and SPIE. The society annually sponsors 25 technical forums and programs and maintains the SPIE Digital Library of more than 375,000 research papers.
In addition to SPIE, Dr. Pirich is an active member of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Coalition Program, holder of nine patents and the author of more than 200 technical papers and presentations. He also continues to serve as the Co-Chair of the SPIE Nanophotonics and Macrophotonics for Space Environments.
