SJC STAFF AND ALUMNI HONORED BY HUNTINGTON CHAMBER

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – April 6, 2018 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Cristian Murphy ’14, SJC Long Island’s director of campus ministry, will be among 30 award recipients at the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce’s annual Celebrate Long Island's Young Professionals Awards on May 2 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York. 

The annual event honors 30 people who are under the age of 30 and have made an impact on their business, industry and community from the private, public, government and not-for-profit sectors.

In addition to Murphy, who is an SJC alumnus, seven other SJC alumni are also being honored at the event. Shannon Dempsey ’10, Alissa Moriarty Toritto ’12, Dylan Gafarian ’15, James Tomeo ’15, Dakota Arocho ’17, Gabrielle Macagnone ’19 and Kristina Jubinville are receiving awards for the impacts they have made in their respective fields.

“We are so proud of these eight award winners and congratulate them, and all of the honorees, for their achievements,” said Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., SJC president. “At St. Joseph’s, we encourage students to develop personal value systems and responsible self-direction. These members of the SJC family are living proof of what we aim to accomplish for every student who walks through our doors. I wish them all continued success in their professional and personal lives.” 

As SJC Long Island’s director of campus ministry, Cristian Murphy provides students with opportunities for spiritual and community service through various forms of service and community engagement. Murphy has a strong background in religious education and ministry, as well as a B.A. in Business Administration from SJC and an M.A. in Religious Education from Fordham University. Murphy is a volunteer firefighter for the West Islip Fire Department, where he is part of the heavy rescue team and serves as the department’s lay chaplain. Murphy lives in West Islip and is engaged to be married to SJC alumna Nina Franza ’14.
