PATCHOGUE, N.Y. OCTOBER 4, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Daniel Ferguson 14, undergraduate student majoring in computer science and mathematics on the Long Island Campus, was awarded the 2013 Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) Special Recognition Scholarship. UPE, the international honor society for the computing and information disciplines, awarded numerous scholarships this fall to graduate and undergraduate students from around the country.
Mr. Ferguson was awarded the scholarship for his outstanding academic record and extra-curricular activities. As president of SJCs UPE chapter and the Computer Science Club, member of the Math Club and Programming Team, and executive of Kappa Mu Epsilon, SJCs mathematics honor society, Mr. Ferguson is very active on campus. In addition, he is a volunteer for the Suffolk County Coder Dojo, a non-profit organization that teaches children how to code and develop websites.
Mr. Ferguson currently works as a software contractor for SDI International, stationed in Holbrook. He plans to continue his studies and ultimately, earn a Ph.D. in computer science.
Founded in 1967 at Texas A&M University, UPE is for students, faculty and computing professionals who exhibit superior scholastic and professional achievement in the computing and information disciplines. UPE is the only international honor society for the computing and information disciplines that is recognized by the Association for Computing Machinery and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Computer Society.
