Patchogue, N.Y. – September 16, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that three SJC students have been selected to participate in the Jr. Moxxie Program, a mentoring and networking program for female college students that aims to prepare them for entry into the business world.
Kellyann Conway ’15, double major in speech communications and journalism and new media studies; Stephanie Mraz ’15, double major in accounting and marketing; and Erin Short ’15, business administration major, are being sponsored to participate by Karin Murphy Caro, a former SJC student who is the founder and president of Blu Chip Marketing, Blu Chip Business Development and BluChip SEO.
“When I first learned about the Jr. Moxxie program, I recognized it as an opportunity to provide young women with the lessons that I have learned throughout the years, both from others and from first-hand experiences,” said Murphy Caro. “By mentoring the next generation of leaders, we strengthen their ability to make the right choices that enable them to nurture the next generation of leaders, and so on. Sometimes I wonder who’s learning more from the experience, them or me. It’s a beautiful thing.”
Over the next eight months, the students will be given an individual mentor, invited to attend business and networking events, attend bi-monthly Jr. Moxxie field trips, workshops or informal meetings, and participate in Moxxie’s annual event, the Emerald Summit fundraiser.
“I am privileged to be a part of the Moxxie organization and I wish these students the best of luck,” said Suzanne Kirkpatrick, chairperson of the Jr. Moxxie Program and senior vice president and relationship manager for Suffolk County National Bank. “Watching our participants transition from students to young professionals is amazing and extremely rewarding. This year, I am honored to be receiving the Purple Pump Award for outstanding mentor. I can’t say enough about Moxxie.”
The Jr. Moxxie Program is one of the various mentoring programs provided by the Moxxie Mentoring Foundation, a nonprofit corporation established in 2012 to expand the mentoring program activities formerly performed under the auspices of Moxxie Network. The Foundation’s activities include fundraising, program development, mentor and mentee recruitment, mentor training and mentee orientation.
