PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – SEPTEMBER 4, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) and LI News Radio are pleased to host a First Congressional District debate between Congressman Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) and NYS Senator Lee Zeldin (R-3rd district), on Friday, October 10 from 5-6 p.m. in the The Muriel & Virginia Pless Center for Performing Arts located in O’Connor Hall on the College’s Long Island Campus in Patchogue, New York.
“St. Joseph’s is honored to partner with LI News Radio to host the upcoming congressional debate between Rep. Bishop and Sen. Zeldin,” said SJC President Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D. “As part of its mission, the College welcomes opportunities to host distinguished members of public life that promote student engagement and can expose the College community to critical thinking about issues that impact their lives.”
LI News Radio Morning News Anchor Jay Oliver will moderate the debate, which will broadcast live on 103.9 LI News Radio. Questions will be directed by LI News management as well as students from SJC.
“We are thrilled to have St. Joseph’s College host this debate and have the students involved,” said JVC General Manager Matthew Goldapper. “It’s a great opportunity to have the community hear directly from both of these candidates on local and national issues.”
Rep. Bishop is running for his seventh consecutive term after defeating former congressional candidate Randy Altschuler during his last two campaigns. SJC hosted the debate between the Congressman and Mr. Altschuler in 2012.
“I look forward to the upcoming congressional debate at St. Joseph’s College hosted by 103.9 LI News Radio,” said Sen. Zeldin. “Since my opponent and I differ on many issues facing our community, state and nation, this debate will be an important opportunity for voters to learn why it is important to help change Washington, by changing our Congressman.”
“I am looking forward to not only highlighting my strong record of creating jobs and working for Long Island’s middle-class, but also showing voters the contrast between the positions I hold and the far-right, out of touch positions my opponent holds,” said Rep. Bishop.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 631.687.2667 or email [email protected].
