SJC to Host Expert Lecture on Health Care Reform

PATCHOGUE, NY MARCH 9, 2011 As part of an ongoing lecture series focusing on current health care topics, St. Josephs College will host an expert panel discussion on health care reform, "Health Care Reform: How Its Going to Affect You, at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23. John Sardelis, Dr.P.H., associate chair of health administration and founder of the St. Josephs College Healthcare Center for Outreach, Research and Education (C.O.R.E.) will serve as moderator.

"As the debate on health care reform rages in the media, the average citizen, whether on Medicare, Medicaid or with insurance through their employer, is often frightened, outraged or simply confused, said Dr. Sardelis. "At St. Joseph's, we have assembled a distinguished panel of experts to better inform the community about the facts and give them an opportunity to draw their own conclusions about the law.

Joining Dr. Sardelis to discuss reform laws, legislation, government intervention and the financial ramifications of health care reform are expert panelists Congressman Tim Bishop (D-Southampton), President and Chief Executive Officer of NuHealth Art Gianelli and President and Chief Executive Officer of New Yorks Health Insurance Exchange Fred Barba. 

"The health reform law has already made a positive difference in the lives of millions of Americans, including seniors who are receiving help with their prescription drug costs and Medicare co-pays, children with pre-existing conditions who can no longer be denied insurance, and small business owners who are receiving tax credits for insuring their employees," said Congressman Tim Bishop. "But many of the law's most important benefits have yet to be implemented and I thank St. Joseph's College for hosting this forum to educate Long Islanders.

The event will take place in the McGann Conference Center located in OConnor Hall at the Colleges Long Island Campus in Patchogue, NY. A question and answer session will immediately follow the panel discussion at 7:30 p.m. A light cocktail reception will conclude the evening.
