PATCHOGUE, N.Y. MARCH 7, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will host its first Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 20 on its Long Island Campus. The symposium seeks to offer students from all disciplines an opportunity to share and celebrate their scholarly and creative accomplishments with the entire SJC community.
"This symposium will offer students the opportunity to take their work to the next level and really showcase their scholarly achievements, said Dominique Treboux, Ph.D., director of undergraduate research and associate professor of psychology at SJC.
Sponsored by all academic departments, students will present research papers, art exhibitions or posters that have been completed as part of an independent study, honors project, research project or other analytical activity.
"Throughout the year, we engage our students in generating knowledge by having them design projects, said Dr. Treboux. "The symposium teaches them to articulate their findings to an audience. This process of engaging students directly in the generation and application of knowledge is consistent with what experts in higher education have recommended is the best way to develop students as scholars and critical thinkers. These skills uniquely prepare them for the job market, graduate work and to become experts in their fields.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. For online registration, visit http://sjcugresearch.sjcny.edu/home/registration or for more information, contact Conference Director Teresa Tannazzo, Ph.D., at [email protected].
