SJC to Host Screening of Film “Deputized”

March 12, 2013

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. MARCH 13, 2013 The Department of Criminal Justice and the Criminal Justice Club at St. Josephs College (SJC) will host a screening of Deputized, a documentary about the 2008 murder of Ecuadorean immigrant Marcelo Lucero, on Tuesday, March 26. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with refreshments and the film will begin at 7 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center on the Colleges Long Island Campus.

Deputized is a fully bilingual documentary that explores the murder of Marcelo Lucero in Patchogue, N.Y. from a variety of perspectives, probing the lives of all involved and the socio-political conditions that brought them together. Immediately following the film, there will be a discussion with the filmmakers.

"The film presents a balanced expos of a tragic event that happened close to home for Patchogue residents: the murder of Marcelo Lucero, said Barbara Morrell, Ph.D., chairperson and professor for the Department of Criminal Justice at SJC. "It's been more than four years since this happened and remains an issue that warrants further clarity and discussion. It will be meaningful to both younger students for whom this event is history, and community members for whom this event will promote dialogue.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Barbara Morrell at 631.687.4582, [email protected] or visit www.sjny.edu.

St. Josephs College is located at 155 W. Roe Blvd. in Patchogue, and is accessible via the South Service Road of Sunrise Highway, just east of Exit 52 (Waverly Avenue).
