Patchogue, N.Y. – March 16, 2016 – The Office of Campus Ministry and the Institute for the Study of Religion in Community Life at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) are pleased to announce that Father Bill Brisotti, pastor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Roman Catholic Church in Wyandanch, New York, will be awarded the 2016 Sister Elizabeth Hill Esse Non Videri Non-Violence Award on Tuesday, April 5 at 1 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center at SJC Long Island.
“St. Joseph’s College is delighted to honor Fr. Bill, a person who puts his beliefs into action,” said Patrick Tracy, director of campus ministry at SJC Long Island. “Father Bill is the exemplification of a peace-loving, passionate advocate for social justice and his parish is a peace and social justice center for the whole community.”
Father Bill Brisotti attended Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland and the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, New York. Fr. Bill was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in 1968 after spending three summers helping poor and destitute individuals in Peru and Chile at Maryknoll Society Missions. A member of Pax Christi, Fr. Bill has worked his entire life to promote the cause of universal pacifism and has consistently exhibited compassion and courage by putting himself in harm’s way to help others. Fr. Bill has been a member of the Atlantic Life Community for nearly 40 years. He is also a member of Voice of the Faithful and an advisory board member of Voice of the Ordained for the dioceses of New York, Brooklyn and Rockville Centre. As president of the Rockville Centre chapter, Fr. Bill has called on all of the ordained to always act in accordance with Jesus’ vision of a Servant Church.
Named after the College’s motto, Esse Non Videri: “To be, not to seem,” the Sister Elizabeth Hill Esse Non Videri Non-Violence Award is presented annually to individuals who exemplify compassion, social engagement and spirituality in the pursuit of social justice and peace. Recipients are chosen for their commitment to a nonviolent way of life and efforts toward bringing about peace, perhaps in an individual or personal situation, or to the wider community or world.
This event is free and open to students, faculty and staff. RSVP is required. Contact Pat Tracy at 631.687.1466 or [email protected].
