PATCHOGUE, NY NOVEMBER 12, 2010 St. Josephs College is pleased to welcome author William Powers to present his talk entitled, "Whats Your 12X12: The Global Environmental Crisis, Policy and Personal Choice on Tuesday, November 30 at 12:40 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center at its Long Island Campus.
During his talk, Mr. Powers will tell about his experience with environmental sustainability and international development while traveling abroad for more than 10 years and the culture shock that he felt after returning to the U.S.
"Bill has undertaken international development and conservation work, finding the right economic incentives and policies to save the worlds climate and rain forests, and practicing less is more in a consumer-driven society, said S. Suzanne Franck, associate academic dean at SJC.
Author of the newly published book Twelve by Twelve: A One-Room Cabin Off the Grid & Beyond the American Dream, Mr. Powers has worked for over a decade in environmental aid, development and conservation throughout Latin America, Africa and Washington, D.C. A senior fellow at the World Policy Institute, he holds degrees in international relations from Brown University and Georgetown's School of Foreign Service. Mr. Powers is also the author of two critically-acclaimed books, Blue Clay People: Seasons on Africas Fragile Edge and Whispering in the Giant's Ear: A Frontline Chronicle from Bolivia's War on Globalization.
