September 22, 2014

Patchogue, N.Y. – September 22, 2014 – The Institute for the Study of Religion in Community Life at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Father Robert E. Lauder, Brooklyn Diocesan priest and professor of philosophy at St. John’s University, will give a presentation on his newest book, Pope Francis’ Spirituality and Our Story, on Thursday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center located on the College’s Long Island Campus in Patchogue, New York.

“It is a privilege to welcome Father Lauder to St. Joseph’s College,” said Paul Ginnetty, Ph.D., professor of psychology and director of the Institute for the Study of Religion and Community Life at SJC. “Throughout his illustrious teaching career and his years of priestly ministry, he has been the kind of inspirational figure that Pope Francis no doubt had in mind when he spoke of priests with whom people can have encounters that leave them ‘looking as if they have heard good news.’”

Well-known for his gift of making abstract philosophical concepts readily available to students and the general public, Fr. Lauder is an avid devotee of the cinema and widely recognized as an uncommonly perceptive film critic. He is the author of several other books, including Love and Hope: Pope Benedicts’s Spirituality of Communion and Magnetized by God: Religious Encounters Through Film, Theatre, Literature and Painting. Fr. Lauder spent many years as a columnist for The Brooklyn Tablet and The Long Island Catholic and was a regular contributor to the culture section of America magazine. He also had numerous articles published in the Sunday Arts and Leisure section of The New York Times

Fr. Lauder received a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Marquette University and an M.A. in Philosophy, B.A. in Theology and a B.A. in Philosophy from Catholic University.

This event is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow the lecture. For more information, email [email protected] or call 631.687.1496.
