PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – August 28, 2018 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that the Hospitality and Tourism Management program (HTM) at SJC Long Island will be recognized with the 2018 Industry Advancement Award at Discover Long Island’s 2nd Annual Tourism Awards Gala on December 11 at the Fox Hollow in Woodbury, New York.
The Industry Advancement Award is given to an educational institution, initiative or effort that fosters a significant understanding of the value of tourism, promoting the industry as an economic driver and fostering future talent for the industry. Discover Long Island selected SJC Long Island’s HTM program for its efforts to further tourism on Long Island and create impactful opportunities for the youth of our communities.
“We are very grateful to Discover Long Island for this honor and award,” said Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., president of St. Joseph’s College. “The Hospitality and Tourism Management program is a unique offering at St. Joseph’s College, and one that we are very proud of. As one of the only colleges in the area offering a four-year HTM degree, the program has seen tremendous growth and success since we introduced it in 2013. Under the direction of Dr. Gail Lamberta and Chairperson Tina Ferro, students receive invaluable experience and graduates of this program have gone on to successful careers in the industry.”
Launched in 2013, SJC’s B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management offers three distinct areas of concentration—Tourism, Hotel Management and Health Care Hospitality—designed to afford students a variety of pathways to pursue a broad range of career choices that align with the most recent trends in employment in the New York region. The program also provides students with unique internship opportunities, giving them practical experience in their chosen fields before they graduate.
