PATCHOGUE, N.Y. APRIL 23, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that, for the second year in a row, an SJC student will receive the Long Island Recreational Trails Conservancys (LIRTC) annual scholarship. This year, Cassandra Crespo was chosen by the organization for her military service and commitment to education. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 19.
Ms. Crespo has been an active member of the United States Army National Guard since 2010. Since enlisting to serve her country, Ms. Crepso completed a deployment in Kuwait as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and received two promotions, allowing her to achieve her current ranking of Specialist. In addition to her military obligations, Ms. Crespo is a sophomore psychology major on SJCs Long Island Campus.
"It is great to see Cassandra receive this honor for her outstanding work, both in the line of duty as well as in the classroom, said Shannon ONeill, assistant dean for the School of Professional and Graduate Studies on the Long Island Campus. "Cassandras dedication to serving our country and the sacrifices she has made while pursuing a degree, are admirable and she has made all of us at St. Josephs College very proud."
LIRTC is a not-for-profit organization that supports local causes and awards scholarships and grants to those in need. They serve as an educational facility to teach safe and responsible ATV use, with a goal of expanding open space rehabilitation to provide long-term active recreational and educational opportunities to members of the public not served by traditional municipal land use policies.
