PATCHOGUE, NY DECEMBER 21, 2012 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that students from the Department of Philosophy recently participated in the Northeast Regional Ethics Bowl Competition (NEREB), a team debate challenge for college and university students.
The NEREB Competition featured teams comprised of undergraduate students from across the country presenting their analysis of controversial topics, such as gun control, human trafficking and plagiarism. The teams arguments were scored by a panel of judges based on a series of scales including coherence, relevance, comprehensiveness and the ability to analyze alternate viewpoints.
"I am immensely proud of the team from St. Josephs and all of their accomplishments, said Landon Frim, assistant professor, Department of Philosophy at SJC. "As a team, the students bested nearly two-thirds of the other colleges and universities in attendance. Student enthusiasm for the competition was high, and as a result, we are looking forward to entering the competition again and will be organizing two teams to participate next year.
The NEREB Competition combines excitement and fun with an innovative approach to education in practical and professional ethics for undergraduate students. For more information about St. Josephs College, visit www.sjny.edu.
