May 17, 2021

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – May 17, 2021 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce the recent approval of a new Master of Social Work (MSW) program that will be offered at SJC Long Island located in Patchogue, New York, beginning in fall 2022.

“I am thrilled that St. Joseph's will soon be offering the Master of Social Work degree,” said SJC President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D. “When we work to develop new programs, we look at the current needs of our communities. Seeing the impact the pandemic has had on mental health, the need for this program is great and I am confident that our faculty are prepared to train the best and brightest of future social workers. We look forward to meeting our first cohort of MSW students next year.”

SJC Long Island’s MSW program will prepare students to work in the field of professional social work as generalist and clinical practitioners, committed to social justice, diversity, and individual and community empowerment. Social workers can be found at the forefront of a variety of professions, including government, counseling, education, mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation, hospitals and health care settings, and social service organizations.

“We are excited to offer this new MSW program, in keeping with our institutional mission to serve others and to provide graduates with a commitment to social responsibility and prepare them for professional success,” said Jo Anne Durovich, Ph.D., LMSW, chair and associate professor of human services, human services leadership and social work at SJC Long Island. “We look forward to welcoming aspiring social workers and helping them achieve their goals.”

The MSW program provides learners with flexible scheduling options that include evening, weekend and online courses, and provides firsthand experience through the completion of two internships during the course of study. Applicants to the program must have earned a minimum of a 3.0 GPA during their undergraduate studies, have the equivalent of one year of experience in the field of human services or social work, and must submit three professional references from individuals who have supervised them in professional settings. GRE exam is not required.
