PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – October 27, 2022 – St. Joseph’s University, New York (SJNY) is pleased to announce that Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Heather Barry, Ph.D., will be honored among Schneps Media’s Power Women of Long Island, an annual event that honors fearless females who make Long Island the thriving and vibrant place it is to work, live and do business.
“I want to congratulate Heather for this well-deserved honor,” said SJNY President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D. “I have the pleasure of working very closely with Heather as she is a key member of the leadership team at the University, and I can attest to her commitment and dedication to her colleagues, our students, the University and the entire Long Island community.”
Dr. Barry has worked at St. Joseph’s University, New York since 2002. She previously served as Associate Provost, Associate Dean, Director of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning, and Assistant Provost for Strategic Planning and Institutional Assessment.
Dr. Barry earned a B.A. and M.A. in History from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She has published several works, including her latest on seventeenth-century Quakers, and has taught an array of courses during her tenure, including Women and Gender in American History, African-American History, History of New York State and City, Historiography and Senior Capstone.
Dr. Barry’s focus is currently on helping develop the University’s next strategic plan and leading the task force to develop new programs in areas of need to help future students find the right career path and live a life characterized by integrity, intellectual and spiritual values, social responsibility and service.
