St. Joseph’s College was recently informed that the spouse of a security officer at our SJC Long Island campus tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Out of an abundance of caution, and following the advice of health professionals and others regarding social distancing, the College has decided to close both its SJC Long Island and SJC Brooklyn campuses for a period of 14 days effective immediately. Important to note, SJC does not have any confirmed cases of COVID-19 at either campus to date. Should this status change, we will communicate that information to you in a timely manner.
During the 14-day period that we remain closed, we are encouraging all SJC employees to work from home, and use this opportunity to limit your exposure to others by practicing social distancing. As per CDC recommendations, social distancing means remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings and maintaining distance (approximately six feet or two meters) from others when possible. The objective of social distancing is to reduce the probability of contact between persons carrying an infection, and others who are not infected, so as to minimize disease transmission.
The College will also be using this time to do a deep cleaning and disinfecting of both campuses and at all of its off-site offices. This includes all buildings at SJC Brooklyn and SJC Long Island, as well as our Great River and Terry Street locations.
The health and wellbeing of the SJC community continues to be at the forefront of our decision-making, and as such, the College has decided to take these unprecedented steps and extreme precautions to minimize the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic within its own and surrounding communities. Again, we are asking that students, faculty and staff do not use our campus facilities for a period of 14-days effective today, Sunday, March 15, 2020.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this stressful time for our country and the entire world. Together, we will weather this storm.
