Women’s Empowerment Summit Features SJC President as Speaker

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. JULY 11, 2013 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that President S. Elizabeth Hill, C.S.J., J.D, was selected and recently served as a panelist for the Fair Media Councils Womens Empowerment Summit, held last month at Briarcliffe College in Bethpage, N.Y.

Attended by nearly 100 women, the event featured a series of workshops and panels designed to address issues that women face in all phases of their careers. Topics included, How to Choose a Mentor, Negotiating Skills and Next Level Leadership, and featured many prominent female speakers.

S. Elizabeth was among five well-known women on a panel titled: "Trail Blazers: Female Icons Tell All. As a panelist, she shared the skills she learned that helped her achieve the role of President at SJC. Alongside S. Elizabeth was President and Founder of Epoch 5 Public Relations Katherine Heaviside, MTA Long Island Rail Road President Helena E. Williams, President & CEO of Daniel Gale Sothebys International Realty Pat Petersen and Philanthropist and Founder of the Little Flower Residence Theresa Santmann.

Elizabeth is incredibly accomplished within her field and cares tremendously about the community, which makes her a dynamic speaker and counselor, said Jaci Clement, executive director, Fair Media Council. "We were thrilled to have her share her viewpoints with women in all phases of their careers -- careers they wouldn't have had without women like S. Elizabeth in the world.

S. Elizabeth has been president of St. Josephs College since 1997. Since her inauguration, she has overseen the expansion of two campuses, most notably the construction of a state-of-the-art Business and Technology Center and 24.8-acre premiere outdoor sports facility on the Long Island Campus, as well as a 44,000-square-foot athletic complex on the Brooklyn Campus that is currently under construction. During her tenure as president, S. Elizabeth secured several large grants from the federal government, including the largest in the Colleges history. Under her leadership, the Colleges enrollment and range of academic offerings have continuously increased while tuition has remained consistently among the lowest in the New York metropolitan area. S. Elizabeth has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for her leadership and lifelong dedication to the field of education.

For more than 30 years, the Fair Media Council has helped communities evolve by teaching the public how to become part of the news ecology and advocating for quality local news as vital to the maintaining quality of life standards.
