PATCHOGUE, NY APRIL 14, 2010 The Womens Issues Club at St. Josephs College will hold a peace vigil on Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 2 7:30 p.m. on its Long Island Campus. Various peace issues will be addressed, including solidarity, religion and peace in the school atmosphere.

Topics including historical perspectives on peace, religion and peace, environmental peace and peace relating to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will be addressed. The evening will conclude with a candlelit walk around the Campus.
"It is wonderful that the club members have taken the initiative to pull together a day for reflection on peace and an opportunity to speak up against violence in all forms, said Dr. Wendy Turgeon, club moderator and chair of the Department of Philosophy at St. Josephs College.
The Womens Issues Club addresses issues affecting women in todays society including poverty, body image and womens rights. The club is dedicated to promoting excellence within the community as well as providing activities for St. Josephs students.
This event is free and open to the public. All are encouraged to attend. The purpose of the vigil is to educate students and community members about violence prevention and to spread peace within the local community. A light dinner will be served.
