Author James Giuliani to Visit SJC Long Island

October 09, 2015

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – October 9, 2015 – The Department of Criminal Justice at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) will host a lecture and book signing by author James Giuliani on Monday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center at SJC Long Island.

A former gangster and member of the well-known Gotti family, Giuliani left his mob life behind and became an animal advocate who goes by the name of Dogfella. During his presentation, he will explain how one small, sick and abused dog transformed his life forever. Giuliani will be signing copies of his book, Dogfella, and will be accompanied by two rescue dogs, Primo and Charlie.

“Dogs and humans have been together for millennia,” said Debra Zaech, assistant dean and senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology at SJC. “Why is it sometimes easier for individuals to bond with dogs than with other people? How can animals increase our self-esteem, give us hope and purpose, and even change our lives for the better? Giuliani discusses the possible reasons in the account of his own life story.”

This event is free and open to the public. In conjunction with the event, the SJC Criminal Justice Club will be accepting donations to support Keno Animal Rescue in Brooklyn, New York. For more information, contact Dr. Amy Poland at [email protected] or 631.687.1209.
